Carousel 1 · DESMO450 MX · Desmodromic valve control in a motocross engine — no valve springs on the gate

E · No Springs on the Gate

Hook
Caption

Every 450 rider knows the feeling. The engine goes flat right when you need one more beat of pull. That's not the engine quitting. That's valve springs hitting their limit.

The Desmo450 MX doesn't have any. Desmodromic valve control closes every valve mechanically with a second cam and rocker, valve technology derived from Ducati's MotoGP racing. 63.5 hp at 9,400 rpm. A limiter way up at 11,900 rpm. Hold the gear. Keep the momentum. Win the start.

Desmo450 MX, Desmo450 MX Factory and Desmo450 EDX. See them at your Ducati dealer and feel what no springs actually means.

T · Desmodromic, Explained

No valve springs. None. The Desmo450 MX closes its valves with a second cam and rocker instead of coil springs. Positive control at any rpm, so valve float physically can't happen.

That's why the cams can run harder profiles and the limiter sits at 11,900 rpm. 449.6 cc. 63.5 hp at 9,400 rpm. 53.5 Nm at 7,500 rpm. Titanium intake valves and sodium-filled steel exhaust valves keep the moving mass minimal. And the valve check comes at 45 hours. Long intervals for an engine that revs this high.

Carousel 2 · DESMO450 MX · Closed-loop Ducati Traction Control — the first off-road TC that measures real wheel slip

E · The Second You Keep

Hook
Caption

That second you lose catching the rear? Ducati went after it with electronics. The Desmo450 MX carries the first off-road traction control with real closed-loop control. It measures actual rear-wheel slip and intervenes only when slip is real. Nothing gets cut unnecessarily.

In Ducati's comparison testing, that was worth 0.3 to 1.6 seconds a lap, about a second on average. Conventional systems: 0 to 0.5, or nothing.

Four levels, settable via app. On or off at the handlebar. Electronics FIM and AMA compliant.

Desmo450 MX, MX Factory and EDX available now. EDX in stock at Ducati Toronto. Desmo450 EDS and Desmo250 MX arrive in Q4. Book a test ride.

Off-road traction control earned its bad reputation honestly: systems that cut power on an estimate. The Desmo450 MX runs the first off-road TC with real closed-loop control. Sensors and inertial data measure the rear wheel's actual slip. It intervenes only when needed. No unnecessary cuts.

Comparison testing showed 0.3 to 1.6 seconds a lap depending on the rider, about a second on average. Conventional systems: 0 to 0.5, or nothing.

Carousel 3 · DESMO450 MX FACTORY · Desmo450 MX Factory — the Akrapovič full-titanium exhaust and its dedicated engine map

E · The Race Shop Already Did the Work

Hook

Everyone reads the peak number. Motos don't care about the peak number.

The Desmo450 MX Factory ships with a full-titanium Akrapovič exhaust and a dedicated engine map. Peak power stays 63.5 hp. What changes is everything under it: a fuller torque curve across the whole rev range, 1.7 kg less to carry, and it still passes AMA and FIM noise rules.

More punch out of the curves. More high-revving power for faster starts. Zero aftermarket work before your first race weekend.

Buy on Saturday, race on Sunday. That was the brief.

T · Why Peak Horsepower Is the Wrong Metric

Hook

Quick lesson in why peak horsepower is the wrong metric.

The Desmo450 MX Factory carries a full-titanium Akrapovič exhaust with resonator. It cuts 1.7 kg. Its dedicated engine map fills the torque curve across the rev range. And the peaks don't move: 63.5 hp at 9,400 rpm, 53.5 Nm at 7,500 rpm. Still AMA and FIM noise compliant.

Lap time lives under the curve. Corner exits and gate drops. That's what this system buys you, with zero aftermarket work before your first race weekend.

104 kg wet, no fuel. 0.8 kg under the standard Desmo450 MX.

Carousel 4 · DESMO450 EDX · MX to EDX — how you turn a motocross bike into an enduro-cross racer

E · Desmo450 EDX: Same Heart, Different Hunting Ground

Hook

Motocross and enduro-cross look like the same sport until you race both. One is short, flat-out motos on prepped dirt. The other is longer races over roots, rocks and no pit board.

The Desmo450 EDX is Ducati's own motocross bike, re-armed for the second one. Bigger 8.5-litre tank. 18-inch rear on Pirelli Scorpion XC Mid-Soft rubber. Softer springs with dedicated valve tuning. Skid plate, handguards and side stand, standard. Underneath, the same 63.5 hp desmo engine.

Desmo450 MX, MX Factory and EDX are available now. The EDX is in stock at Ducati Toronto. Desmo450 EDS and Desmo250 MX arriving Q4. Come see it up close, or book a test ride.

How do you turn a motocross bike into an enduro-cross racer? Ducati's answer is the Desmo450 EDX, and every change solves a terrain problem.

Fuel goes from 7.2 to 8.5 litres for longer loops. The 19-inch motocross rear becomes an 18 on Pirelli Scorpion XC Mid-Soft. Softer springs, a dedicated valve tune. Skid plate, handguards and side stand come standard. The 63.5 hp desmo engine and quick shifter carry over untouched. 107.1 kg without fuel, ready for the bush.

Carousel 5 · DESMO450 EDS · Desmo450 EDS — what 'street-legal enduro' actually means

E · Ride there. Race it. Ride home.

Hook

The problem with enduro was never the riding. It was everything before the riding. Truck, trailer, ramps, straps, and half a morning gone before your front wheel touches dirt.

The Desmo450 EDS deletes that list. The first modern Ducati street-legal enduro bike. Plate it, ride to the trailhead, race the loop, ride home. The 449.6 cc desmo single is retuned for exactly this: 42 hp delivered so smoothly that low-traction ground stops being a negotiation. And the six-speed has a long sixth gear built for the road sections in between.

Arriving Q4. Pre-order at Ducati Toronto now. Come in and talk trails.

T · What street-legal enduro actually means

Hook
Caption

Making a competition enduro platform road-legal isn't a paperwork exercise. Ducati re-engineered the Desmo450 engine for it: new camshafts, a revised piston at 12.9:1 compression, a higher-inertia crankshaft, a throttle body cut from 44 to 42 mm. Not for more power. For delivery you can trust on ground that keeps changing.

Then a six-speed built for the discipline: five short gears for technical terrain, an elastic third, a long sixth for road transfers. Road-bike service intervals: oil at 2,500 km, valves at 5,000 km, main service at 11,500 km.

That's what street-legal enduro means. Arriving Q4. Pre-order at Ducati Toronto and come ask what it looks like on Ontario trails.

Carousel 6 · DESMO250 MX · Desmo250 MX — a 15,000 rpm rev ceiling and what over-rev buys a 250 rider

E · Hold the Gear

Hook
Caption

Every 250 rider knows the moment. Corner exit, the gear's done, and the upshift steals your drive. The Desmo250 MX was built for exactly that moment. Desmodromic timing. No valve springs. A 15,000 rpm limiter Ducati calls a new reference for the segment, so you hold the gear and keep the drive. 44.5 hp at 12,500 rpm. A 24.7 kg engine. 103 kg wet, no fuel. Arriving Q4, pre-order through Ducati Toronto. Come talk revs with us anytime.

T · 15,000 rpm, Explained

Hook
Caption

On a 250, the shift you make at corner exit is drive you give away. Ducati's fix: an engine that doesn't need the shift yet. Valve springs limit safe rpm. Desmodromic control closes each valve mechanically instead, so the Desmo250 MX revs to 15,000 rpm, a benchmark value for the category. Designed from scratch with Panigale V4 R know-how: 249.7 cc, 14.5:1 compression, 44.5 hp at 12,500 rpm, 28.3 Nm at 8,800. The engine alone weighs 24.7 kg. Dedicated 5-speed. Brembo 7-disc hydraulic clutch. Fewer shifts, every gear used fully. Arriving Q4, pre-order through Ducati Toronto. Come ask us what over-rev feels like.
